JOSH BARRAZA

Josh, Mark Miller’s nephew, was born in Virginia to an army family that traveled often. He was raised primarily in California, in a city very different than the wilderness of Alaska. When his Mom decided it was time for Josh to learn about the great outdoors, she shipped him up to Talaheim for a few weeks.

Two days into his stay he saw a black bear. It was the first bear he’d ever seen. He was pretty excited until that black bear charged him, at which point Luke Miller shot it. So on Josh’s third day in the great wilderness of Alaska, he learned to skin said bear.

Josh was only 12 when first arriving at Talaheim but he’s been back every summer since and has become an integral part of the team. You’ll find him mowing the lawn, taking out the trash, and driving the tractor and four wheeler. When not at Talaheim you’ll find him riding horses, and competing in polo matches.

AN INTERVIEW WITH JOSH

Working with Mark every day. The things that fall out of his mouth make the job 10x better. He’s got a good sense of humor, and so does the rest of the staff.
I caught the pilot bug at Talaheim, so I’m applying to the Naval Academy where I want to become a naval officer or pilot and fly helicopters and jets.
Yes. Talaheim has become my second home. It’s where I found my niche. The first time I went there I didn’t want to go back to California, I called my mom and begged her to let me stay 2 more weeks.
