THE TALAHEIM DIFFERENCE

Heli-Fish Remote Waters

We’re the only lodge in Alaska that owns two helicopters for our guest’s exclusive use. Located 80 miles west of Anchorage, surrounded by nothing but a valley of mountains, we fish streams rarely seen by other anglers.

A Variety of Fish Species

Whether you’re an avid fly fisherman looking to hook one of our famous Rainbow Trout, or a novice angler after an Alaskan King, Sockeye, or Silver salmon, see why Talaheim Fishing Lodge has been the anglers choice for over forty years.

Professional & Personal Service

With only six to eight fishermen per week, our guests enjoy personal service from a staff of experts. From fishing guides, helicopters pilots, to chefs, we’ve been blessed that our staff continues to return, year after year, just like our salmon.

Wilderness Luxury Lodging

Cozy and rustic in style, all of our guest cabins are equipped with electricity, refrigeration, indoor plumbing, wood stove or central heating, while meals feature gourmet cuisine including many Alaskan favorites.

Repeat Clientele

We’ve been a family run business for over forty years, and that family feeling extends to our guests. Over half of our clients return, many of which come several times across decades and bring with them a new generation of fishermen.

An Alaskan Legend

With over forty years in business, Talaheim Lodge is known throughout the world as a premiere fly fishing destination, and lodge founder and owner, Mark Miller, an Alaskan pioneer, expert bush pilot, and teller of many incredible stories.

TESTIMONIAL

This was a stellar and unforgettable trip! Between Trevor yelling “set the hook” and the incredible views, this was the trip of a lifetime. All guides were incredibly knowledgeable and all around fun. It was learning with Trevor, vacation with Nick, and adventure with Doc. Will not forget, and incredibly thankful for this experience. All the best

Thanks again for being such a terrific host to all of us the other week. Your staff, pilots, and guides were nothing but friendly, helpful, and gracious – they were always smiling and a joy to hang out with every day. All of us agree that the week was probably the best trip we’ve ever been on…and we’ve been to a lot of different places. You definitely run a first rate operation.

Trip of a lifetime! This is our 2nd time at the lodge and will definitely be back. Food, fishing, staff, it was a pleasure. Helicopter fishing is the way to go. Look forward to coming back soon. Thank you to everyone at the Talaheim Lodge for making this week so memorable!

I miss coming up so much you have no idea – I need to get it back in my summer plans soon as some of my best outdoor memories are in that special place.

TALAHEIM’S FISH SPECIES

image
5 SPECIES OF SALMON
Our king salmon runs mid-June to early July. By mid-July we start seeing sockeyes, pinks, and chums. By end of July our silvers arrive. Kings and silvers are anglers most sought after species because they’re most aggressive on the take.
RAINBOW TROUT
Our local tributaries are known for their rainbow trout, and Talaheim loves mousing for these beauties. Available all season long, but from mid-August to early September they’ve gained 30% body weight and can be +20 inches and more than 6 lbs.

DOLLY VARDEN
With spots and a bright pink underbelly, these fish live up to their namesake. Available all season long and often caught on fry imitations, leach patterns, or when the salmon are spawning, egg patterns.
ARCTIC GRAYLING
Our native predator species, these large-finned fish stay in our waters for up to 10 years and can be caught all summer long by following the most recent hatch, or the spawning salmon. They’re also our guides favorite to grill shoreside for lunch.
